Freelance Reporter – Health & Biotech Policy (Washington DC Area)

Whether COVID-19, cancer, climate change, or the future of food and energy, policy and regulations can drive—or deter—innovation to build a healthier, more sustainable future.

The Samantha Sault Agency is seeking a freelance reporter based in the Washington DC area to produce approx. 2-3 stories per month including original features and news blurbs about U.S. policy related to biotechnology.

Our client: A fast-growing source for biotech news, including a daily newsletter with 50K subscribers and news platform, which are read by decisionmakers in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, Capitol Hill, the White House, and government agencies.

Our ideal candidate: A freelance writer with experience covering health, pharmaceuticals, energy, and/or agriculture policy in Washington DC. You’re familiar with relevant government agencies from APHIS to VA (and especially CMS, FDA, and USDA) and you’re up to speed on hot policy topics including drug pricing, accelerated approval, biofuels, and gene editing, to name a few. While your focus will be on policymaking in Washington DC, you may jump on stories with an international policy focus, as well.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce approx. 2-3 stories/month, including original features and shorter breaking news blurbs.
  • Participate in weekly editorial planning calls with agency/client team.
  • Write clean, accurate copy on deadline with brevity and attention to detail.

As we grow and expand, there may be additional opportunities to produce more content as well as to cover industry conferences in the U.S.

Location: While the writer will work remotely on ET as a freelancer, we are looking for someone available for in-person reporting and assignments in Washington DC.

Compensation: Competitive per-article rate or retainer TBD depending on writer’s availability and experience.

To apply: Send a resumé, cover letter, and writing samples to The Samantha Sault Agency LLC at samantha@samanthasault.com.
