London Fashion Week: Jasper Conran

While enjoying my Illy on this holiday, I’ve been reading a recent profile of British designer Jasper Conran in the UK Telegraph, describing his career trajectory from his days sharing a house with The Clash to designing for Princess Diana. In September, I had the privilege of seeing the Jasper Conran Spring 2011 collection live in London, which, as I mentioned in my print story, featured airy dresses and separates fit for a picnic in the English countryside–or perhaps a royal honeymoon in some hot destination. After all, Jasper Conran has designed for a number of famous English roses, including both Diana and Princess Margaret’s daughter.

Apparently, I need a new camera.

Seeking respite from the cold, gray day, I just revisited Conran’s latest collection and its pops of fresh sorbet colors. I could definitely see the Soon-to-Be-Princess Kate in one of his ladylike sundresses–and myself in his tangerine shorts separates. Hopefully, Conran’s fresh palette, including the hot orange tops, will be available in the J by Jasper Conran collection for Debenhams department store when I return to London Fashion Week in just a few weeks!

These punchy dresses are fit for a princess…or, perhaps, First Lady Michelle Obama.
