Meeting Stacy London

As my readers may know, I’ve met a number of top designers, B-list celebrities, and of course, politicians. But standing face-to-face with Stacy London of What Not To Wear fame, who was wearing a perfect beige sheath dress and had flawless hair and makeup despite the sweltering heat, even the most style-confident girl can get a bit starstruck. Are my Spanx lines showing through my dress? Are my beloved gold Kors gladiators too much bling for the early evening? Should I have kept my new black leather Botkier purse from Gilt Groupe in its dustbag until October? After all, as fans of the show know, Stacy’s job is to tell it like it is, and even fashion bloggers have plenty of bad-outfit days.

“Diane?” she asked me as I finally emerged at the front of the large crowd stuffing Georgetown’s Urban Chic for this evening’s meet-and-greet with the style star.

“Umm…Samantha!” I responded, wondering for a fleeting second if she had mistaken me for someone else or, in my wildest dreams, recognized me because she’s read my blog.

“No. Your dress…” she said. It suddenly clicked. Diane! Von Furstenberg! No, I sheepishly told her. It’s Trina Turk. And then we chatted about my “political magazine by day, fashion blog by night” life.

“Do you wear a cape when you blog? You’re kind of like a fashion superhero,” she said, referring to my red dress with metallic accents. I relaxed knowing that my outfit was not an example of “what not to wear,” and that I can continue saving D.C. one boxy business suit at a time.

Stacy London and Samantha on Style

Trina Turk Astra Buckle Dress in Tomato, $149 at Revolve Clothing

KORS Michael Kors Dareh Sandal in Gold, $240 at Bloomingdale’s

Botkier Sasha Small Duffle in Black, $248 at Gilt Groupe

By the way, if you’re in Georgetown, stop by Urban Chic because they have a phenomenal selection of new-for-fall Rebecca Taylor, Theory, and Shoshanna, among others, and check out their new style blog, too!
